Recent ActivityPrincipal's Message Welcome to a new school year!I am very excited to begin serving the Powell Valley community as the principal and have already had the opportunity to work with several staff members, families, and community members to prepare our school for students! I want to thank everyone who participated in the Community Clean Up day! In partnership with Cornerstone Church, we had more than 40 volunteers pruning, edging, moving furniture, spreading barkdust, painting and working together to make our school look its best! As we begin the 2012-2013 school year, I invite you to come and introduce yourself to me and make sure I know who your children are, as well as what's important to you for your children. I believe that we, as educators and parents, have the awesome responsibility of working collaboratively and with integrity to create an inclusive environment that ensures every student achieves excellence. During the 2012-2013 school year, we will begin implementing the newly adopted Common Core State Standards which will challenge students to grow in new and exciting ways. We will also continue our focus on the implementation of the core reading program, Literacy by Design, teach writing via the Lucy Calkins’ Writer’s Workshop format, and using Response to Intervention strategies and protocols to address students who may need additional support in reading. Our website is an exciting tool to help share information about our school and programs. Our goal is to make it a parent-friendly resource for all of you.
